Habits

“Writerly habits” per Jonathan Rogers of The Habit Weekly. Maybe they can be of benefit in other areas of life as well?

  • Ignore the inner critic during the first draft.
  • Invite the inner critic back for the second and third drafts.
  • Push through, don’t give up too early.
  • Keep verbs close to subjects
  • Keep modifiers close to the words they modify.
  • Pay attention. See the stories & images that unfold around us all day, every day.
  • Stay in the chair and turning off the devices. This helps us not find something easier to do when faced with the hard work of putting words on the page.
